Case study

Petronas x Logitech: sim racing at F1 Malaysia, in front of KLCC.

A joint activation with Petronas and Logitech, built around F1 Malaysia week and staged at one of the highest-traffic locations in the city. Vertex supplied and operated the racing simulators — and during the event, two Formula 1 drivers stopped by.

F1 Malaysia week turns a handful of city blocks into some of the highest-traffic real estate in Kuala Lumpur — and the main fan activation that year was staged directly in front of KLCC, in partnership between Petronas and Logitech. Vertex's role was squarely technical and operational: supplying and running the racing simulator rigs that sat at the centre of the activation, under Logitech's own hardware branding and Petronas' motorsport identity.

A different kind of brief

Unlike a brand-building activation designed to introduce a company to a new audience, this one sat inside an existing, high-stakes motorsport moment — Petronas' own F1 presence, amplified by Logitech's simulator hardware, in front of a crowd that already understood exactly what it was looking at. The job wasn't to explain the brand. It was to make sure the equipment performed at a level that matched the occasion: reliable, precise, and ready for a queue that didn't let up all week.

A visit from the paddock

During the event, Formula 1 drivers Kimi Antonelli and George Russell made an appearance at the booth — the kind of moment that validates exactly why the hardware and the operation need to be flawless. A simulator rig that a Formula 1 driver might sit behind doesn't get a second chance to be impressive; it has to be dialled in before the gates open, not adjusted on the fly.

When the people who might sit in your rig race for a living, "good enough" isn't a setting that exists.

Why the location mattered as much as the hardware

Positioning the activation directly in front of KLCC wasn't incidental — it put a serious piece of racing equipment in view of one of the most photographed, most walked-past locations in the country, during the one week of the year when motorsport is front of mind for the widest possible audience in Malaysia. That combination — the right hardware, run by the right team, in the right place, at the right moment — is what turned a technical supply job into one of the highest-visibility activations Vertex has run.

What this says about equipment rental at this level

Not every sim racing booking needs to hold up to a Formula 1 driver sitting in the seat. But every booking benefits from being treated like it might. The standard Vertex builds to for jobs like this — reliable hardware, trained operators, zero tolerance for downtime during a public event — is the same standard applied whether the client is a global motorsport brand or a first-time booking for a corporate roadshow.
